WCC Nets Three Bids in 2025 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament

The West Coast Conference has made a remarkable showing in the 2025 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament, receiving three bids, including an automatic qualifier for the four-time champion San Diego Toreros. With their impressive season, the Toreros secured the No. 9 national seed, while the Portland Pilots earned a first-round bye as the No. 8 seed. Oregon State will also represent the conference by hosting Washington in a first-round game.

The Beavers are set to face the Huskies on Thursday, November 20, at 6 p.m., with the winner traveling to play against the No. 5 seed SMU. Meanwhile, USD will compete against the winner of the match between UCLA and Grand Canyon on Sunday at 2 p.m., and Portland will go up against the victor of Denver and UC Irvine later that evening at 7 p.m. Should both San Diego and Portland advance, a clash between the two in the third round next week is possible.

This year’s achievement marks the West Coast Conference’s consistent performance in the NCAA Tournament, with at least two teams appearing in nine of the last ten seasons. Notably, the conference previously saw three bids in 2023, with Loyola Marymount, Portland, and San Diego all making the tournament—LMU even advancing to the quarterfinals.

San Diego closed out their remarkable season with a record of 13 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws, clinching the West Coast Conference title with a stunning unbeaten home record of 9-0-1. The Toreros not only dominated their league play, outscoring opponents 19-5, but also showcased a resilient defense, recording nine shutouts. Goalkeeper Lucca Adams led the league with the best goals-against average, affirming USD’s strength on both the offensive and defensive fronts.

On the other hand, Portland wrapped up their season with a 13-1-3 record, seeing success as the only NCAA Division I team to maintain a perfect home record of 11-0-0. This success translates to the Pilots registering the most wins since 1995 and achieving the best winning percentage since 1988. They are tied for sixth nationally in goal differential, highlighting their efficiency on the field as they push forward in the tournament.

Oregon State, boasting a strong record of 10-4-2, initially entered the postseason challenge without a home loss or a defeat in conference play until their final regular-season match against San Diego. The team has also been noted for the outstanding performance of Arnau Farnos, who led the league in goals and points, positioning Oregon State for a competitive run in their NCAA Tournament appearance.

With the West Coast Conference holding a historical legacy in men’s soccer, featuring five national championships—four by San Francisco and one by Santa Clara—it continues to develop top-tier talent and competitive programs. This year’s tournament bids are a testament to the enduring strength of the conference and its ability to elevate collegiate soccer standards.

The highly anticipated 2025 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup is scheduled to take place from December 12-15 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, where teams from across the nation will compete for the championship title.
