Vanuatu police are on the hunt for armed robbers who executed a bold daylight heist, making off with $AUD600,000 in cash from Bauerfield International Airport. Early investigations indicate that the perpetrators brandished firearms to intimidate employees of a money transfer company located in the airport’s cargo terminal before escaping in a tinted white van.

Police Commissioner Kalshem Bongran has urged the community to assist in identifying the two suspects involved in this audacious robbery. The stolen funds were in transit, undergoing weighing and verification by Customs officials at the time of the incident.

Fortunately, authorities reported that no injuries occurred during this alarming event, which has raised significant concerns regarding the security measures in place at the airport. Officials are calling it an unprecedented occurrence in Vanuatu’s history of crime.

In a positive note, international and domestic flights at the airport have continued to operate without disruption following the incident. This resilience highlights the commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region, even in the face of such challenges.
