On Monday, the State Department updated its travel advisories to recommend against all travel to a variety of countries, namely Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the occupied West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. This decision comes in light of recent escalatory measures, including U.S. and Israeli airstrikes that targeted multiple sites in Iran, leading to significant casualties among Iranian leadership.
Mora Namdar, the State Department’s assistant secretary for consular affairs, emphasized on social media the urgency for U.S. citizens to “DEPART NOW” from these regions using available commercial transportation due to “serious safety risks”.
