Univision Returns to YouTube TV After 56-Day Blackout as ViX Joins Primetime Channels

TelevisaUnivision and Google have successfully renewed their partnership, reinstating Univision and several other Spanish-language networks to YouTube TV after a prolonged 56-day blackout. This outage marked YouTube TV’s longest programming gap since the platform’s launch in 2017.

The newly established multiyear agreement allows YouTube TV users to access TelevisaUnivision’s channels, including Univision, UniMás, Galavisión, and TUDN sports, on both the Base Plan and Spanish Plan. Viewers can expect to see Univision reappear on YouTube TV starting Wednesday, November 26.

Additionally, the deal includes the availability of TelevisaUnivision’s ViX premium streaming service through YouTube’s Primetime Channels subscription hub. Starting in 2026, YouTube plans to expand ViX’s availability to more countries, beginning with Mexico, as it launches its Primetime Channels there for the first time.

The programming blackout began on September 30, when the previous agreement expired, and negotiations faltered. Google had expressed concerns that TelevisaUnivision sought price increases that did not align with their viewership metrics. As the largest Spanish-language broadcaster in the U.S., Univision operates 59 stations and plays a crucial role in Hispanic media.

The resolution of this stalemate comes amid a challenging year for YouTube TV, which has been actively renegotiating content agreements. With more than 10 million subscribers, it remains the top internet-TV service in the U.S. Recently, YouTube TV also dealt with a temporary loss of ESPN, ABC, and other Disney networks until a resolution was reached.

The Univision blackout even drew attention from political circles, prompting remarks from President Donald Trump about its implications for Republican strategies in the upcoming Midterms.

TelevisaUnivision’s CEO, Daniel Alegre, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing the importance of Univision in providing news, sports, and entertainment to Hispanic viewers. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to serve its audience effectively. A YouTube spokesperson echoed these sentiments, highlighting the collaboration’s potential to enhance the presence and content availability of TelevisaUnivision across its platform.

Spanish-language content continues to thrive on YouTube, attracting substantial viewership. In June 2025, Spanish-language videos garnered an impressive average of over 9 billion views daily on the platform, showcasing the significant demand for diverse media offerings.
