The Dallas Mavericks are struggling this season, currently posting a dismal 5–14 record, which has ignited speculation regarding the team’s future and potential roster changes. Amid persistent injuries and inconsistent performance, trade discussions have emerged, particularly centered on star forward Anthony Davis. However, prominent league insiders have downplayed the likelihood of Davis being traded to the Golden State Warriors.
Jake Fischer, a reporter for The Stein Line, highlighted the Warriors’ ongoing challenges in finding frontcourt stability, but noted significant concerns over Davis’ durability. “Davis would be the better fit for the Warriors if healthy,” Fischer stated. However, his history of injuries is alarming; since becoming a Maverick, he has missed 38 of his first 52 regular-season games, raising doubts about his trade viability.
Davis has been out of action since October 29 due to a left calf strain suffered during a game against the Indiana Pacers, where he played only seven minutes. This injury adds to a troubling trend that complicates Davis’ impact in Dallas and diminishes his trade value.
ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel echoed these concerns, reinforcing the challenges of any potential Warriors pursuit of Davis. He explained that acquiring Davis would require the Warriors to part with key players like Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green, neither of whom the team is willing to trade. This stance effectively eliminates the possibility of Davis heading to Golden State.
Davis is currently in the first year of a three-year, $175.3 million extension and has averaged 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks this season. Despite these impressive statistics, the combination of his contract size and injury concerns makes him a risky asset.
On a positive note, the Golden State Warriors have recently found some stability, breaking a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Utah Jazz, raising their record to 10–9. They will look to build on this momentum during their upcoming homestand against the Houston Rockets. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are seeking to turn their fortunes around as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Lakers, hoping to secure a win amidst the uncertainty regarding Davis’ future.
