President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with late-night host Seth Meyers, following the comedian’s recent jabs at the former president. Over the weekend, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to request that NBC terminate Meyers, arguing that the host suffers from what he terms “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS).
In his post, Trump criticized Meyers’ lack of talent and suggested that his show is experiencing disastrous ratings. He wrote, “NBC’s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!”
This is not the first time Trump has labeled Meyers as untalented. Earlier this month, he asserted on Truth Social that Meyers has “NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!”
The exact reason for Trump’s crusade against Meyers remains ambiguous, but it follows a series of jokes from Meyers concerning Trump’s responses to newly released emails related to Jeffrey Epstein. Meyers notably mocked Trump over comments suggesting that he was aware of Epstein’s activities. The late-night host has also participated in roasts regarding Trump’s decision to demolish parts of the East Wing of the White House, further exacerbating tensions.
In response to Trump’s call for action against Meyers, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr added his backing by sharing Trump’s remarks on X, although he refrained from offering further commentary. Carr has recently voiced strong sentiments against other late-night hosts as well, notably Jimmy Kimmel, who faced a temporary suspension after making controversial remarks earlier in September.
Kimmel was removed from the air for an indefinite period but returned just a few days later, demonstrating the dynamic nature of the late-night television landscape amid political commentary.
This ongoing dialogue around late-night hosts reflects a broader cultural conversation about comedy, politics, and the relationship between media figures and public figures. As late-night shows continue to navigate these turbulent waters, the interaction between political figures and comedians remains a focal point of discussion in contemporary media.
