White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller asserted that the U.S. military is now able to engage in conflicts without constraints under President Donald Trump’s leadership. He praised the recent joint strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, describing them as “politically incorrect” and a shift away from what he termed a “woke Pentagon” that characterized previous administrations.
Miller criticized how the military’s previous approach allegedly eroded public trust. He claimed that the military’s higher command, rather than frontline personnel, was restricted from fighting to its full potential. His remarks reflect a broader sentiment echoed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who stated that the U.S. military operations are now being conducted “on our terms,” without the burdens of restrictive rules of engagement or nation-building exercises.
Despite these assertions from senior officials, a recent poll conducted by Hart Research Associates and Public Opinion Strategies for NBC News indicates that a majority of American voters—54 percent—disapprove of President Trump’s management of the ongoing war in Iran, while 41 percent approve. This is a stark contrast to his previous campaign promises centered on not engaging in foreign wars and advocating for an “America First” agenda.
Trump previously estimated that U.S. military activities in Iran would continue for around “four to five weeks,” yet Hegseth suggested there would be no specific timeline to limit U.S. involvement. He expressed confidence in the military’s success so far, declaring, “American is winning decisively,” while asserting a robust commitment to protect U.S. interests.
The strikes have reportedly resulted in significant casualties, including over 1,000 fatalities, as well as tragic incidents such as an airstrike that hit a girls’ primary school. Hegseth acknowledged this incident and stated it would be investigated, emphasizing the administration’s focus on military aggression and outcomes.
As the situation develops, questions about the long-term ramifications of these actions remain, particularly given the mixed feelings among voters. Nonetheless, the unwavering stance from the Trump administration signals a firm commitment to aggressive military engagement.
