Matthew Tkachuk is eagerly anticipating the Miami Hurricanes’ appearance in the College Football Playoff national championship. However, with the Florida Panthers, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions, scheduled for a home game that same night, timing became a concern.

Fortunately, the NHL has announced that the Panthers’ game against the San Jose Sharks on January 19 will now start at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than originally planned. The CFP title game between Miami and Indiana is set to kick off just after 7:30 p.m., meaning there is a good chance Tkachuk and his teammates will catch the action after the conclusion of their own game.

Tkachuk expressed his excitement about the Hurricanes’ success and his desire to watch them compete, saying, “I think some guys are trying to get our game pushed up a little bit, so we can watch it.” His enthusiasm reflects the pride South Florida fans have for their local teams, especially after Miami (13-2, No. 10 CFP) secured its championship spot against Indiana (15-0, No. 1 CFP).

The Panthers star has embraced Miami culture during his time with the team, even suggesting that Miami’s hockey program evolve from a club sport to a varsity sport. Earlier this season, he made waves as a guest commentator on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” which broadcast live from the university.

Having experienced consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances, Tkachuk understands the significance of championship aspirations in South Florida. He noted, “I think they’re trying to make South Florida ‘Titletown.’ So, it’d be pretty cool if they can do it.” As fans look forward to both events, Tkachuk’s enthusiasm serves as a reminder of the community spirit brought on by local sports achievements.
