Manchester City has officially acquired England international Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, signing him to a five-and-a-half-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Monday. This move comes as City intensifies its efforts to close the gap with league leaders Arsenal in the race for the title.

While the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, it has been reported by British media that the fee for the 25-year-old defender, who had only six months remaining on his contract at Palace, is approximately £20 million (around $26.84 million).

Guehi’s addition is particularly significant for City, as the team has been grappling with a defensive injury crisis, facing challenges with key players such as Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, and John Stones sidelined. His signing adds valuable depth to the squad as they navigate this challenging period.

This acquisition marks City’s second signing of the January transfer window, following the earlier recruitment of winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. With these strategic moves, Manchester City is evidently looking to reinforce its squad and maintain its competitive edge as the season progresses.
