Reed’s limited playing time—only surpassing 20 minutes in three games so far—does not reflect his potential impact. He brings energy off the bench and could effectively replace some of Isaiah Stewart’s minutes. Given Reed’s more consistent offensive play and temperament, increased playing time could also pave the way for the Pistons to consider trading Stewart, who may be more sought after in the trade market.
Next is Daniss Jenkins, a point guard/shooting guard who impressed earlier in the season while Jaden Ivey was sidelined with an injury. However, since Ivey’s return, Jenkins’s playing time has significantly decreased, culminating in him not starting since December 3. His recent performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he played over 25 minutes, suggests he still has much to offer. With Ivey yet to receive a contract extension and potentially in trade discussions, Jenkins’s continued development could give the Pistons more options in evaluating Ivey’s future with the team.
Lastly, Caris LeVert, a shooting guard/small forward, has a close relationship with Coach Bickerstaff from his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, LeVert has struggled to find his place, averaging only 20.1 minutes per game and underperforming with 8.4 points per game on 43.7% shooting. To maximize his scoring ability, which could relieve some pressure from Cade Cunningham, LeVert requires increased touches and minutes. If he fails to show his worth upon returning from a knee injury, it may become evident that his potential lies elsewhere.
