Glen Powell and Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Running Man” is now available for home viewing in the UK following the conclusion of its theatrical release. This film, which reimagines the 1987 cult classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, can be purchased from popular digital platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV for £13.99. Currently, there is no option to rent the film for 48 hours.

In the United States, the movie can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription, although that option is not yet available in the UK. For fans wanting a physical copy, HMV has slated the DVD release for March 2.

Set in a dystopian future dominated by a media conglomerate, “The Running Man” stars Powell as Ben, who participates in a deadly reality show where he has the chance to win $1 billion—if he can survive for 30 days while being hunted by assassins and watched by a captivated audience. Despite its high-budget production of approximately $110 million, the film faced challenges at the box office, grossing only around $69 million internationally.

Critical reception has been mixed but generally positive, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a 63% favorable rating from critics and a score of 78% from over 2,500 audience ratings. Reviews highlight the film’s blend of humor and action, with the Seattle Times noting that while it offers an enjoyable experience, its social commentary sometimes falters. NPR remarked that the film is entertaining, although some of King’s sharper critiques may be softened. The Telegraph described it as an “exhilarating adaptation,” recognizing it as perhaps Wright’s first project that feels more like work for hire than a deeply personal endeavor.

As “The Running Man” is now available for digital purchase, it provides an opportunity for audiences to experience this contemporary narrative on survival, entertainment, and media influence.
