Texas A&M Student Dies After Rivalry Tailgate Near UT Campus

A Texas A&M University student tragically died just hours after attending a tailgate event for the school’s long-standing rivalry game against the University of Texas in Austin on Friday night. According to a statement from the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a report of an unconscious person at an apartment on Rio Grande Street, located just west of the UT campus.

Responding officers arrived shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday and discovered a woman unresponsive. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. While officials have not disclosed details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, they have confirmed that the investigation is not being pursued as a homicide, emphasizing there are “no indications of suspicious circumstances” involved.

Although the woman’s identity has not been officially released by authorities, a GoFundMe campaign indicates she is Brianna Aguilera, an undergraduate student studying at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M. Friends of Aguilera have shared the fundraiser link through social media, demonstrating the support and sense of community among her peers.

A post from Barstool Texas A&M on social media highlighted the tragic loss, encouraging donations to the GoFundMe started by Amabelii Fernandez from Aguilera’s hometown of Laredo, Texas. The fundraiser has garnered significant support, raising over $21,000 to assist Aguilera’s family during this difficult time.

As the community mourns her loss, the Bush School has been contacted for further information regarding the incident, with updates expected to follow. This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of supporting one another in times of grief.
