SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks have announced that forward Alexander Wennberg has been re-signed to a three-year contract valued at $18 million, which equates to an average annual value of $6 million. At 31 years old, Wennberg has made a significant impact on the ice this season, currently ranking tied for second on the Sharks with 19 assists and tied for third with 26 points. His strong performance has him tied for 10th among Swedish forwards in assists this season. Notably, he has recorded three consecutive point streaks, including impressive back-to-back three-point efforts in critical games against Toronto and Pittsburgh earlier in December, contributing to remarkable come-from-behind victories.
Wennberg recently received the honor of being named to Sweden’s Men’s Roster for the upcoming 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, further highlighting his skill and international recognition. He reached a career milestone by playing in his 800th NHL game on October 30 and has accumulated a total of 396 points over his career (108 goals, 288 assists) through 830 games. His experience includes tenures with the Sharks, New York Rangers, Seattle Kraken, Florida Panthers, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Wennberg has participated in 58 games, recording 19 points, including eight goals and eleven assists. He achieved personal bests in the 2023 playoffs with the Seattle Kraken, notching five assists and seven points in a single postseason appearance.
Before joining the NHL, Wennberg had a successful season with Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), where he scored 21 points (16 goals, five assists) in 50 games. His remarkable performance earned him accolades such as the Swedish Junior Hockey Player of the Year and a spot as a finalist for the SHL Rookie of the Year.
On the international stage, Wennberg has proudly represented Sweden multiple times, contributing to a Bronze Medal win at the 2025 World Championships, and earning Silver Medals at the 2013 and 2014 World Junior Championships, along with another Silver at the 2012 U-18 World Junior Championship.
Standing six feet two inches tall and weighing 190 pounds, the native of Stockholm was originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft, selected 14th overall. He joined the Sharks as a free agent on July 1, 2024, and his re-signing demonstrates the organization’s faith in his abilities and contributions.
The Sharks continue to invest in their roster, and Wennberg’s skills and experience will be crucial as the team aims for success in the upcoming seasons.
