A delegation of seven young Fijians has set off for India to take part in the 2026 Republic Day Camp, marking a noteworthy enhancement in the diplomatic relationship between Fiji and India. The delegation was officially sent off on Tuesday by Shri Suneet Mehta, the Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, and Fiji’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru. Both leaders highlighted the importance of the Youth Exchange Program, which plays a crucial role in promoting youth development and strengthening bilateral ties.

High Commissioner Mehta emphasized the program’s significance, stating that it enables young Fijians to connect with India’s political landscape, its rich cultural heritage, and its national leaders. He noted, “This program is very significant for us as it not only brings young people from Fiji, one of India’s important partners, but also enables them to visit India and interact with policymakers and high-level dignitaries.”

The Fijian delegates will have the opportunity to experience the grandeur of India’s Republic Day Parade in New Delhi and engage in discussions with senior government officials. Their itinerary is packed with visits to several remarkable landmarks, including the National War Memorial, National Museum, Prime Minister’s Museum, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and the illustrious Taj Mahal along with Agra Fort.

High Commissioner Mehta reiterated India’s dedication to fostering its relationship with Fiji, asserting that this exchange program offers participants a chance to witness the country’s diversity and rapid progress up close.

Minister Saukuru expressed heartfelt thanks to the Indian government for its ongoing support of the exchange initiative, stressing the enriching experiences it offers to young Fijians. “This program creates opportunities for our youth to learn, grow and return home better equipped to contribute to their communities,” he remarked, highlighting the positive outcomes the delegates are expected to bring back to Fiji, thus benefiting youth groups, families, and communities throughout the nation.

This exchange not only cultivates international friendships but also empowers the youth, providing them with essential tools and insights to create meaningful change in their own communities.
