A 48-year-old man, who has been convicted of incest involving his 18-year-old biological daughter in Rotuma, is set to be sentenced tomorrow. The father of three entered a guilty plea earlier this year, facing charges of incest by a relative and sexual assault stemming from incidents that occurred in 2025.
This week, the court proceedings included the acceptance of the summary of facts presented in the High Court in Suva, presided over by Justice Daniel Goundar. The prosecution was represented by ODPP Lawyer Yelena Sautu. Following the proceedings, the man was remanded in custody and is scheduled to remain in detention until December 4.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the charges, highlighting ongoing societal issues regarding familial abuse and the legal protections surrounding such cases.
