Camila Osorio of Colombia delivered a powerful performance at the WTA125 Philippine Women’s Open, defeating local favorite Alex Eala with a score of 6-4, 6-4. The match took place at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, where Eala had garnered significant support from the home crowd. Osorio, seeded fifth and currently ranked No. 84 in the WTA, showcased her composure by successfully countering Eala’s late-set rallies to secure her spot in the semifinals.

Osorio will face No. 3 seed Solana Sierra of Argentina in the semifinal round. Sierra, a close friend of Eala, advanced after defeating Thailand’s Lanlana Tararudee 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the evening. After her victory over Eala, Osorio expressed appreciation for the vibrant energy from the crowd, noting that, regardless of the outcome, she focused on her performance.

Despite her exit from the tournament, Eala remained positive, emphasizing her pride in bringing world-class tennis to the Philippines. She expressed her gratitude to the fans, saying, “I love tennis so much, so I’m lucky to be able to share this experience and journey with all of you.” Looking ahead, Eala will compete next in the WTA500 Abu Dhabi, entering as a wildcard in the main draw.

In the other semifinal, fourth seed Donna Vekic from Croatia will face unseeded Tatiana Prozorova of Russia. Vekic, ranked No. 72, earned her place by defeating China’s Lin Zhu 6-4, 6-3, while Prozorova continues her impressive run after overcoming Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas in a thrilling comeback match, finishing 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. The semifinal showdown promises to be an exciting event as the tournament marks the Philippines’ first-ever hosting of a WTA event.
