Rose McGowan, the outspoken actress and activist, has raised doubts about the legitimacy of Harvey Weinstein’s sentence, suggesting he may not be serving time in prison as reported. The 52-year-old, who has been a prominent figure in the anti-sexual assault movement since allegations against Weinstein surfaced in 2017, made these claims during a recent appearance on Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast.

Weinstein is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault, but McGowan speculates that he might be residing in a mansion in Connecticut instead of behind bars. “I would love to see a picture of him in prison. I suspect he’s been in a mansion in Connecticut. That’s my theory,” she stated, expressing her skepticism, “I don’t know if he’s ever spent a day in prison. Hollywood, baby. I don’t know, maybe.”

McGowan has personal experience with Weinstein, alleging that he assaulted her at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997. Reflecting on his character, she described him as a “thug,” emphasizing that he resembled not the stereotypical mafia boss, but rather someone who epitomizes a street thug.

In her commentary, McGowan also noted the film industry’s unwavering support for Weinstein, comparing it to her own traumatic childhood experiences in the Children of God cult. She lamented that Weinstein garnered more gratitude than God at the Oscars, asserting, “Harvey Weinstein was their god. This was far worse than the cult I grew up in.”

Since stepping away from Hollywood during the COVID-19 pandemic, McGowan has been residing in Mexico and has expressed a desire to return to acting and the arts. Speaking fondly about her life in Mexico, she remarked, “It is an incredible country” enriched with diversity and joy.

McGowan highlighted her search for peace and silence, explaining that her upbringing as a child of a social worker in a commune led her to yearn for less noise and more listening. This journey reflects her ongoing quest for personal growth and healing.

Despite the challenges she has faced, McGowan remains hopeful about a future in creative expression, looking forward to the possibility of reviving her career in the arts while savoring the joys of her new life in Mexico.
