Badminton Fiji is gearing up for an exciting start to the 2026 season with the upcoming Oceania Championships, set to take place in New Zealand next month. National coach Steven Low has emphasized the importance of thorough preparation, revealing that training for this event commenced as early as last year. Athletes participated in a dedicated training camp in December, where they focused on enhancing their skills.
Coach Low expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the players over recent weeks, noting that the training camp was crucial for identifying and addressing the athletes’ weaknesses. “Throughout our December training camp, we focused on our athletes’ weaknesses that need improvement before heading into the tournament, ensuring they can compete effectively against overseas players. Mastering these skills will allow them to grow and learn from the tournament experiences,” he stated.
In preparation for the championships, a 10-member squad consisting of six men and four women will be selected to represent Fiji. The championships are scheduled to take place at the Badminton North Harbor Centre in Auckland from February 8 to 12, promising an exciting showcase of talent and competition for the participating athletes. As Badminton Fiji looks forward to this significant event, hopes are high for strong performances and valuable learning opportunities for the team.
