River Hawks Star Hamed Takes Next Step in Volleyball at Pace University

Owego Free Academy’s senior standout, Maggie Hamed, is set to take the next step in her athletic career by playing college volleyball at Pace University. On Monday afternoon, Hamed officially signed her National Letter of Intent, marking an exciting milestone for both her and the team’s supporters.

Throughout her impressive high school career, Hamed has played a pivotal role in the River Hawks’ success, contributing to five STAC Central Division titles and four Section IV championships. Her dedication and skill on the court have not gone unnoticed, as she earned recognition from the New York Volleyball Coaches Association, being named to the Class A All-State first team in 2024 after previously earning a fourth-team selection in 2023.

In addition to her athletic achievements, Hamed will also focus on her academic pursuits at Pace, majoring in psychology and sociology. Her well-rounded approach to both sports and education underscores her commitment to personal development.

Hamed’s legacy at Owego Free Academy is highlighted by her exceptional career statistics over five years on the varsity squad, which include a remarkable total of 1,064 kills, 457 digs, 201 assists, and 143 aces. These achievements reflect her prowess as a player and her integral role in the team’s accomplishments.

As she transitions to college volleyball, Hamed’s journey is inspiring for aspiring athletes, demonstrating that hard work, perseverance, and passion can lead to fulfilling opportunities both on and off the court.
