Raptors Clinch NBA Cup Quarterfinals With Dominant Win Over Wizards

Brandon Ingram and RJ Barrett each delivered impressive performances, scoring 24 points, while Scottie Barnes contributed with 23 points as the Toronto Raptors secured a commanding 140-110 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday night. This win not only propelled Toronto into the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup but also marked them as the first team to achieve such a milestone.

With this victory, the Raptors clinched the top position in Group A, thanks in part to Indiana’s loss to Cleveland. Sandro Mamukelashvili also shined, netting a season-high 23 points, while teammate Immanuel Quickley added 17 points. The Raptors have now achieved a perfect 3-0 record in NBA Cup play and extended their winning streak to six games.

On the other side, the struggling Wizards, who now hold a record of 1-14 following their 13th consecutive loss, saw contributions from CJ McCollum with 20 points, Tre Johnson with 14, and Cam Whitmore with 11 points. Washington continues to grapple with challenges this season, having lost all 10 games against Eastern Conference opponents.

Jamal Shead had a standout performance, recording a season-high 10 assists for the Raptors. Notably, Toronto set a new season high in points during this game, with their 30-point margin of victory being their largest this season, surpassing their previous 28-point home win against Milwaukee.

The game began with Bilal Coulibaly giving the Wizards an early lead with a fast-break dunk, but the Raptors quickly took control with an 11-point scoring streak and never trailed again. The third quarter saw the Raptors hold a commanding 105-77 lead, and they improved to a perfect 10-0 record when leading entering the fourth quarter.

The Wizards faced difficulties from the three-point line, making only 12 of their 41 attempts, while their starters combined for a disappointing 3-for-21 performance from beyond the arc. Additionally, the Wizards were without center Alex Sarr, who missed his second straight game due to a sore left big toe, and Marvin Bagley III, sidelined with a right hip contusion. The Raptors rookie Collin Murray-Boyles also sat out due to a sore right knee.

Looking ahead, the Wizards are set to face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, while the Raptors will host the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, aiming to carry their momentum into the next game.
