The People’s Alliance Party (PAP) is addressing the circulation of a list on social media that reportedly includes names of individuals intending to run under its banner. While the authenticity of this list remains unconfirmed, the party has taken a firm stance on the matter.

In a recent statement, general secretary Sila Balawa reiterated that the process for candidates’ applications and selections is strictly confidential in accordance with the party’s constitution. He stated, “The Party wishes to highlight that the candidate application and selection process remains an internal matter, and any unauthorized disclosure of information regarding this process is considered unacceptable and a serious breach of party discipline.”

Balawa pointed out that the Party Constitution grants authority to investigate misconduct, especially actions perceived as threats to confidentiality, trust, and unity within the organization. He confirmed that measures are already in place to identify the source of the information leak, with an emphasis on accountability for those involved.

The general secretary underscored the PAP’s intolerance for indiscipline and factional behavior among its members, staff, or affiliates. He warned that such behavior, often stemming from personal grievances, could severely damage the party and would be dealt with firmly.

As the election period approaches, Balawa highlighted the necessity of remaining vigilant against misinformation and interference with internal party processes. His commitment to the integrity of the Party structures was evident as he stated, “The integrity of our Headquarters and Party structures must be upheld at all times.” He concluded by reaffirming the People’s Alliance Party’s dedication to responsible leadership and governance, aiming to maintain unity and discipline as they prepare for the electoral challenges ahead. This resolve signifies the party’s commitment to navigating potential disruptions with a focus on transparency and accountability.
