Apple has announced the cancellation of “The Last Frontier” after just one season. Despite a promising start and considerable promotional efforts, the series failed to maintain its audience, ultimately leading to its demise.
The show, starring Jason Clarke, premiered in October to generally favorable reviews. However, as the season progressed, viewership dropped, culminating in a disappointing finale that received a notably low rating of 6.2 on IMDb—compared to an initial high of 7.7 for its debut episode. The plot revolved around U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, portrayed by Clarke, who embarks on a perilous manhunt following a suspicious prison transport plane crash in Alaska.
“The Last Frontier” was given a straight-to-series order by Apple in February 2023, which indicated the company’s confidence in the show from the outset. It has now joined a growing list of Apple TV+ series that have been cut short after only one season. This includes other titles such as “Mr. Corman,” “City on Fire,” and “Amber Brown.”
Despite this setback, Apple TV+ continues to deliver a range of acclaimed programming, including popular titles like “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Shrinking,” available for $12.99 per month. The platform remains committed to exploring new stories and talent, signaling a hopeful direction for future series.
