The NFL coaching carousel is turning rapidly this week, spurred by the resignation of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin after 19 seasons. His departure brings the total number of head coach vacancies in the league to nine, representing more than 25% of NFL teams. This marks a significant moment in football history as three of the four teams in the AFC North are now searching for new leadership, and this offseason will see both Tomlin and the Baltimore Ravens’ John Harbaugh, the two longest-tenured coaches in the league, leaving their positions.

The Steelers now join the ranks of the Giants, Browns, Titans, Dolphins, Falcons, Ravens, Raiders, and Cardinals, all of which are actively seeking new head coaches – a situation not seen since 2022 when there were ten vacancies.

Among the latest updates, the Baltimore Ravens have interviewed Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores. This follows their meetings with former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. The Dolphins are also on the hunt, engaging with former Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski and others.

Meanwhile, John Harbaugh is being pursued by several teams, including the Giants, Falcons, and Titans, following his unexpected exit from Baltimore after 18 seasons. With Harbaugh’s Super Bowl-winning resume, he is emerging as one of the most sought-after candidates this cycle.

The Tennessee Titans are also busy, having interviewed a notable list of candidates including former Falcons coach Raheem Morris, and they have future discussions lined up with several other notable figures like Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.

The coaching changes are not just limited to head coaches; several teams are evaluating their general managers and support staff. The Falcons have made significant organizational changes, placing Matt Ryan in a newly created president of football position to spearhead their rebuilding efforts.

As the coaching landscape continues to evolve, the focus across the league will be on identifying the right candidates who can lead their franchises into a new era, particularly in teams that are hoping to turn their fortunes around after a disappointing season. The search for leadership in the NFL remains a dynamic and engaging process, with franchises eager to find head coaches that can foster both culture and success in their organizations.
