ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners received an update on the construction of the new county jail facility located on Pershing Road. County Administrator Kade Haddox reported that the project is currently 30 percent complete, highlighting several key developments achieved in recent months.
According to Haddox, the 30 percent completion metric is based on both the total billed costs and the man-hours accounted for in the project. Observers can see significant progress from the exterior, as most outer walls have been constructed, windows installed, and garage doors added. Additionally, the roofing has been completed on approximately three-fourths of the building.
The construction team plans to finish the remaining roof, windows, and doors shortly. This will enable work on the interior to proceed in a stable environment, which is crucial for adhering to the project timeline. Haddox emphasized that while the outer structure is visible now, an extensive amount of work lies ahead, including installation of masonry, office spaces, cells, electrical systems, HVAC, and various finishes throughout the 103,000 square-foot facility.
Haddox commended the collaborative efforts of the many contractors involved in the project, noting their effective coordination. He also mentioned that most of the heavy truck traffic through the neighborhood has diminished, ensuring that the project remains on schedule for a targeted completion in August 2027. This development signifies a positive stride for the county, aiming to enhance community safety and correctional facility standards.
