Dorothy Daugherty, Beloved Marietta Matriarch, Remembered for Faith and Family

Dorothy Ann (Dottie) Daugherty, age 88, of Marietta, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 7, 1936, in Shade, Ohio, she was the daughter of Francis Robinson and Mary Geneva Gose Robinson.

Dottie graduated from Chauncey High School in 1954 and had a diverse career that included working at the Marietta Food Center and retiring from Walmart. In addition to her work, she dedicated much of her life to caring for children in her home. A devoted member of the Marietta Bible Center Church, Dottie found joy in watching golf and cheering for Ohio State University football. She was known for her kindness and compassion, with a heart that reflected her love for The Lord and her family.

On May 4, 1958, Dottie married her high school sweetheart, Donald Daugherty, who remained a loving and devoted husband throughout their life together. Dottie is survived by their children: DeeDee Townsend of Marietta, Don Daugherty Jr. (Penny) of Marietta, Diane Friedler (Todd Blunk) of Cleveland, and Dana “Boopsie” Cruse (Roger) of Williamstown. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren: Rachel Marie Iancu, Brent Townsend, Jake Townsend, Kyle Daugherty, Siera Bourizk, Jarred Cruse, Brianna Cruse, and her nine great-grandchildren. Dottie is also survived by her siblings: Dick Robinson, Judy Jones, Norma Bails, and Paul Robinson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Kenny Townsend and several siblings, including Frank Robinson, Jerry Robinson, Patty Stanley, Dana McGraner, Linda Jones, and infant Roger Robinson, as well as nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 3, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, with Pastor Teddy Tackett officiating. Following the service, burial will occur at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. The family extends a heartfelt “thank you” to Amedisys Hospice and Emily Seaman for their exceptional care during Dottie’s final days. Dottie’s legacy of warmth and love will continue to live on through her family and all who knew her.
