Montenegro U21 Edges Armenia, Eyes Italy Qualifier Showdown

The young Montenegrin national football team secured a crucial victory against Armenia, winning 2-1 in Yerevan, which solidifies their position in third place during their qualifying campaign for the European Championship. Coach Goran Perišić expressed significance of the win, emphasizing the necessity for his team to recharge ahead of their challenging upcoming match against Italy.

Despite the victory, Perišić noted that the performance wasn’t reflective of the team’s true capabilities. Montenegro struggled at the beginning, ceding control to the Armenian side and displaying low energy levels. However, they managed to take an early lead after a penalty kick, thanks to a well-executed action by Vladimir Perišić. Following this, a defensive mishap allowed Armenia to equalize just before halftime.

“We could not impose our style even after taking the lead, and we conceded because of our own negligence,” Perišić commented on the team’s struggles. Fortunately, Balša Mrvaljević emerged as the game-changer in the second half, scoring the winning goal that deflected off a defender, securing three vital points for Montenegro.

Perišić acknowledged that while the team was lucky with the final goal, it was their hard work and resilience throughout the qualifiers that earned them the victory. He looks forward to a significant challenge against Italy on Tuesday and urged fans to rally in support of the team, as their backing is crucial for the players who have been performing diligently.

The young Montenegrin side, although facing ups and downs in their journey, has demonstrated tenacity in their matches, raising hopes for a strong show against one of Europe’s prominent teams. As they prepare for the upcoming clash, there’s an optimistic outlook for their continued progress in the tournament.
