MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Mid-South is bracing for an increase in rain showers and thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday as a disturbance makes its way through the region. For Wednesday, however, residents can expect a calm day with partly to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures hovering in the upper 60s to lower 70s, making it an ideal day for outdoor activities.

As the evening sets in on Wednesday, winds are expected to pick up from the south, contributing to rising temperatures. Highs between Thursday and Friday are predicted to reach the lower to middle 70s despite the anticipated cloud cover. Showers and thunderstorms may develop during this period, with a particular focus on Friday being the most likely day for severe weather activity. While the chances of strong or severe storms exist on both days, the risk is heightened on Friday, especially in Mississippi compared to Tennessee and Arkansas.

Those keeping an eye on the weather should note that strong winds present the greatest threat, along with the possibility of flash flooding due to heavy rainfall. Although the chance of tornadoes is considered low, hail is also a potential concern. The severe weather is expected to primarily unfold after sunset, around 5 PM, with Thursday’s risk more pronounced west of the Mississippi River.

Looking ahead, the weekend will bring a notable drop in temperatures, settling closer to average for this time of year. From Saturday through the following week, highs are expected to range from the middle 40s to the middle 50s, with mainly dry conditions and mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.

As always, it’s advisable for residents to stay informed and prepared as the weather evolves, especially with the risk of severe storms on the horizon.
