Mary Robichaux Wins Roswell Mayor Runoff, Defeating Incumbent Kurt Wilson

Mary Robichaux has emerged victorious in the Dec. 2 runoff for Roswell mayor, decisively defeating incumbent Mayor Kurt Wilson by over 1,000 votes. Wilson acknowledged his defeat in a call to Robichaux before 8:45 p.m., allowing her supporters at Voodoo Brewing to celebrate the win.

Robichaux, visibly moved by the outcome, expressed her gratitude to her campaign team and emphasized her commitment to continue listening to the community’s concerns. “As I spoke to more people, there were just so many that felt that their voices were being heard or considered,” she stated. Her campaign resonated with voters, as she confidently began the evening with 58 percent of the early voting results, ultimately garnering nearly 9,500 votes.

In contrast, Wilson reflected on the unexpected challenges faced during his campaign, noting that the support for him was narrowly outpaced by Robichaux’s endorsements, which led to the runoff after neither candidate achieved the required majority in the general election. “I’ve done right by my city,” Wilson remarked, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to work with a dedicated team over the past four years.

In the Nov. 4 general election, Wilson finished with 36.5 percent of the vote, slightly ahead of Robichaux’s 35.7 percent. The presence of third candidate Steve Dorvee, who endorsed Robichaux during the runoff, ultimately influenced the final outcome, demonstrating the dynamic nature of local electoral politics.

This victory marks a significant moment for Robichaux and her supporters, who are hopeful for a fresh approach to leadership in Roswell.
