In LaPorta’s absence, the Lions are turning to Brock Wright to step into the tight end one role. While Wright is a capable player, he lacks the dynamic receiving ability that LaPorta possesses. In the first game without LaPorta, Wright played a season-high 49 snaps but managed only two receptions for eight yards, although he was involved in key plays that didn’t result in catches.
Resting on the shoulders of the remaining tight ends, the Lions are also looking to other players to contribute in LaPorta’s stead. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs shined in the last game, leading the team in receiving with five catches for 107 yards, indicating the need for innovative game strategies to leverage Gibbs and other receivers like Kalif Raymond and rookie Isaac TeSlaa, who may see increased roles moving forward.
