Lautoka to Transform Coronation Park Under New BOOT Plan

Lautoka Plans Major Coronation Park Redevelopment Under PPP, Public Consultation Set

The Lautoka City Council has announced an important public-private partnership aimed at redeveloping a significant tract of city land, requiring a revision of zoning regulations for a protected park area. This initiative will focus on a section of Tavewa Avenue in collaboration with Challenge Engineering Pte Ltd to enhance Lots 4 and 5 on ND 3747, which includes Coronation Park.

Coronation Park is strategically located near Tappoo City and Churchill Park, and plans for the site entail the construction of a multi-use development designed by Maisuria Designs Pte Ltd. The proposed structure will encompass a three-storey building with commercial spaces and hotel facilities on the first two floors, while the ground floor will be dedicated to hotel operations, including a reception area.

The project will be executed under a “Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer” (BOOT) model, emphasizing sustainability and long-term maintenance of the new facilities. However, the current designation of the land as ‘Civic Zone’ and its use for “Open Space — Park” requires the Council to amend zoning laws to facilitate these changes.

To foster community engagement and gather public feedback, the Council has scheduled a stakeholder consultation meeting. This initiative is supported by Taitusi Rasoki Kata, Chairperson for the Board of Special Administrators, who affirmed the Council’s dedication to open discussions with constituents regarding the project’s implications.

This consultation is set to take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 10:00 am in the Lautoka City Council Chambers. This approach reflects the Council’s commitment to maintaining an open dialogue with residents, similar to previous efforts concerning the revitalization of areas like Shirley Park and Churchill Park Stadium.

The Lautoka City Council’s ongoing initiatives highlight a broader commitment to enhancing public spaces and facilities tailored to community needs, fostering recreational prospects and contributing to economic growth. The potential for this project signals a promising development for the city, aiming to create dynamic urban environments that benefit both local residents and the local economy.
