The animated film “KPop Demon Hunters” is set to receive a sequel, though fans will have to wait until 2029 for its release. Despite this long wait, the franchise continues to thrive, keeping characters like Rumi, Mira, and Zoey in the limelight. This March, the community of demon hunters is gearing up to celebrate a significant milestone for the film, which is a contender at this year’s Oscars.
A recent communication from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that “KPop Demon Hunters” will feature a live performance of its acclaimed song “Golden.” While it’s not officially confirmed who will perform, there are indications that EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami might take the stage. Due to time constraints, only “Golden” and another nominated song, “I Lied To You” by Sinners, will be performed live at the Academy Awards, with the film’s star, Miles Caton, expected to join the performances.
The official letter from the Academy emphasized the care and storytelling approach taken with the Best Original Song nominees, suggesting that each song will be introduced through specific content that illustrates its connection to the film it originates from, potentially including behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creative process.
In addition to “Golden” and “I Lied to You,” other contenders for the Best Original Song include “Sweet Dreams of Joy” from Viva Verdi, “Train Dreams” by Train Dreams, and “Dear Me” by Diane Warren. Given the Academy’s historical time limitations during awards broadcasts, it remains uncertain whether one of the two live-performed songs is favored to win.
The 2026 Academy Awards will take place on March 15th, hosted by Conan O’Brien. “KPop Demon Hunters” has not only been nominated for Best Original Song but also for Best Animated Feature, which bodes well for a potential double win. Regardless of the outcomes at the Oscars, the future looks bright for the demon hunters, with sequels, TV series, and live performances on the horizon, thanks to the franchise’s incredible popularity since its Netflix debut last year.
Fans eagerly anticipate the awards ceremony and the ongoing journey of the demon hunters as they seek to secure Oscar glory.
