Karrueche Tran is making a significant addition to her impressive resume by stepping into the world of music as a rapper in Lifetime’s original film, “Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love,” which is set to premiere this Saturday, November 8.

In this film, Karrueche portrays Charlisa “Charlie” Jones, a platinum-selling rapper known for her vibrant persona and provocative lyrics, which have garnered her more headlines than harmony. Following a tumultuous period marked by a stint in prison, Charlie finds herself fulfilling court-ordered community service under Pastor Kyrus Owens, played by Mark J.P. Hood. Pastor Owens is a dedicated minister raising funds to build a new home for his congregation.

As Charlie and Pastor Owens navigate their different worlds, a captivating romance blossoms. However, their growing relationship raises questions among the congregation regarding Owens’ commitment to his church, while Charlie grapples with her edgy public image and a newfound yearning for redemption. The film artfully explores themes of faith, forgiveness, and the complexities of fame, providing Karrueche with one of her most ambitious roles to date.

Expressing her excitement, Karrueche shared, “I’ve never played a rapper. I’ve never rapped. I’m not musically inclined in any way. But it was a great challenge.” She reveals that she researched rapper Lola Brooke to prepare for the role, highlighting her dedication to delivering a genuine performance. Karrueche found the experience rewarding as it pushed her to discover her potential. “I learned that I can do anything I put my mind to,” she stated, reinforcing the film’s empowering message.

With a talented cast alongside her, including Tobias Truvillion, B. Simone, Reginae Carter, and Da Brat, the film promises a rich blend of soulful redemption and bold self-expression, echoing the guiding vision of the renowned Terry McMillan, known for her hits such as “Waiting to Exhale” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.”

Fans can catch a glimpse of the film by watching the trailer, and they are encouraged to tune in for the premiere of “Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love” this Saturday at 8/7c on Lifetime. The film is poised to inspire viewers with its heartfelt narrative and Karrueche’s compelling performance.
