The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is set to host a public hearing on November 17 regarding plans for a proposed roundabout near La Porte. The project aims to improve safety at the intersection of Indiana 2 and 500 West, which has been noted for its high frequency of crashes.
The proposed design features a single lane roundabout equipped with a truck apron, specifically tailored to enhance traffic flow and safety for both vehicles and pedestrians. This public hearing will serve as a platform for community members to engage with the project team, review the project’s specifics, and share their comments.
The event will take place at the La Porte County Public Library Exchange located at 807 Indiana Avenue. Attendees will be welcomed starting at 5:30 p.m., giving them the chance to examine displays and converse with representatives before the formal presentation and public comment session begins at 6 p.m.
INDOT emphasizes the importance of public input, stating that all verbal and written comments gathered before, during, and for two weeks following the hearing will be carefully reviewed and factored into the final decision-making process for this safety improvement initiative. This approach reflects INDOT’s commitment to transparency and community involvement in enhancing road safety.
