Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has expressed his commitment to supporting his officers as investigations are underway regarding allegations connecting seven senior police officials, including the head of the Narcotics Bureau, to illicit drug operations. Tudravu stated that no disciplinary actions or suspensions will take place without concrete evidence to support the allegations.

He emphasized the importance of not relying on public opinion to make judgments about his officers, asserting, “I’ll stand by my men.” The commissioner acknowledged the seriousness of the claims, particularly because they involve high-ranking officials, but pointed out that they remain unverified at this time. “At this point in time, it’s still a viber message. We are doing our best,” he said.

Tudravu highlighted the negative impact that the circulating screenshots have had on the morale of the police force and urged the public to refrain from making premature conclusions. He remarked, “Anybody can name them – even they can name me,” underscoring the potential harm that such allegations can inflict regardless of their veracity.

Confirming that all seven officers mentioned in the allegations are currently under investigation, Tudravu confirmed that this includes the director of Narcotics as well. He noted that law enforcement, with support from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), is working diligently to track the origin of the messages in an effort to clarify the situation.

As investigations proceed, there remains hope that clarity will be achieved and that the integrity of the police force can be maintained.
