IHSA Football Semifinals Set as Illinois Teams Vie for State Title at Hancock Stadium

The semifinals of the 2025 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) playoffs have kicked off, showcasing the top eight classes in Illinois high school football. A total of 32 teams are competing for a coveted spot in the state championships, which will take place at Illinois State University’s Hancock Stadium during the weekend following Thanksgiving.

In the Class 1A semifinals, Lena-Winslow secured a narrow lead over Stockton with a score of 14-8 during the third quarter, while Mt. Sterling Brown County edged out Hardin Calhoun with a final score of 14-13.

In Class 2A, Maroa-Forsyth triumphed convincingly with a score of 28-6 over Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond. The highly anticipated clash between El Paso-Gridley and Wilmington is set for 5 p.m. with El Paso-Gridley arriving undefeated at 12-0.

Class 3A presented an exciting finish as Byron dominated Richmond-Burton with a final score of 44-10. Tolono Unity also advanced after a closely contested game against St. Joseph Ogden, finishing with a score of 51-44.

In Class 4A, Lombard Montini led Morris with a score of 40-21 during the third quarter. Meanwhile, Breese Central was set to take on Rochester in another pivotal match scheduled for 4 p.m.

Class 5A saw New Lenox Providence defeat Oak Forest with a score of 31-21. In a matchup of powerhouses, Wheaton St. Francis will face Belvidere North, who remains undefeated at 12-0.

The Class 6A semifinals concluded with Oak Park Fenwick narrowly defeating LaGrange Park Nazareth 28-27, and East St. Louis delivered a commanding performance against Burbank St. Laurence, winning 50-7.

In Class 7A, Chicago St. Rita is leading Batavia with a score of 40-10 in the third quarter. The matchup between Downers Grove North and Chicago Brother Rice is set to commence at 4 p.m.
