HBO’s The Chair Company Breaks Freshman Records, Teases Season 2

The Chair Company, a new comedy series featuring Tim Robinson, made its premiere on HBO and HBO Max on October 12, capturing audiences with its quirky humor and intriguing storyline. After concluding its first season on November 30, the show emerged as HBO’s most-watched comedy series debut in over five years, a testament to its widespread appeal.

The show’s narrative centers around Ron, played by Robinson, whose journey begins with an embarrassing incident at a work presentation involving a collapsing chair. This incident spirals into a quest to uncover a “vast criminal conspiracy,” plunging Ron deeper into paranoia and mystery. His wife, Barb, portrayed by Lake Bell, experiences the fallout of his obsessive sleuthing, bringing both humor and heartfelt moments to the story.

Lake Bell remarked on the connective experience audiences have with the show, saying, “What people really respond to is the fact that it is so unexpected and that while it’s very relatable and accessible… there are things behind the curtain that allow for this anxious hilarity to ensue.”

Fans of The Chair Company can rejoice, as HBO has confirmed that the series will return for a second season. The announcement was made in November 2025, alongside the renewal of another comedy, I Love LA. HBO’s comedy head, Amy Gravitt, expressed her enthusiasm for both series, highlighting their contributions to the HBO comedy legacy.

While Tim Robinson’s return as both the star and co-creator is likely, official confirmation has yet to be announced. His recent film, Friendship, co-starring Paul Rudd, further underscores his rising star power.

As for the second season, several mysteries remain unresolved, particularly regarding the identity of the person behind the conspiracy that has consumed Ron. Lou Diamond Phillips, who plays Ron’s boss, teased that the season finale sets the stage for exciting developments in the upcoming season. Co-creator Zach Kanin shared the team’s desire for surprises, emphasizing their intention to keep plot details under wraps.

As of now, the premiere date for Season 2 has not been released. However, with the show’s initial season achieving historical ratings as HBO’s top freshman comedy, expectations are high for its return. Until then, viewers can catch up on all episodes of The Chair Company, currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
