Global Delegation in Dharamshala Seeks Dalai Lama Audience on World Human Rights Day

A parliamentarian from Fiji is participating in a six-member delegation from Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji on a visit to Dharamshala, India, from December 9 to December 12, 2025. The delegation’s agenda includes a significant meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and interactions with Tibetan leaders.

During their four-day stay, the members will have an audience with the Dalai Lama and will engage with key figures in the Central Tibetan Administration, including Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, the Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. Additionally, the delegation plans to explore important cultural and educational institutions in Dharamshala.

A highlight of the visit is set for December 10, when the delegation will join Tibetans globally to commemorate the 36th anniversary of His Holiness receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, an event that coincides with World Human Rights Day.

The traveling group comprises notable representatives including Australian Greens Senator Barbara Pocock, Labor MP Sarah Witty, Independent MP Kate Chaney, New Zealand MPs Duncan Webb and Greg Fleming, along with Fiji’s Independent MP Virendra Lal. This visit underscores the ongoing commitment to human rights and Tibetan self-determination, fostering international dialogue and understanding.
