The Fiji Airways men’s sevens team is set to infuse fresh talent into its ranks following the recent McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament. Head coach Osea Kolinisau has been actively scouting for potential players and is eager to include them in the squad as they gear up for the Singapore 7s later this month.

Kolinisau expressed his excitement about the opportunities for new talent during a training session in Suva. “There are a few more boys from the Coral Coast that we would like to bring into camp and into the system, and I think it is deserving of them to join,” he stated. His remarks underscore a commitment to fostering emerging talents, emphasizing that “the door is always open” for promising players.

Prominently, many of these new recruits are expected to come from the Yaro Chiefs, who recently claimed victory at the Coral Coast 7s. Kolinisau was particularly impressed by the skill and competitiveness demonstrated at the tournament, singling out teams like the Ravuka Sharks and the Yaro Chiefs and reinforcing his belief in their players’ potential.

During his observations in Suva, Kolinisau noticed numerous raw talents eager to make their mark. Among those currently training are Police Blue player Akuila Dranivotua, a former standout with the Devo Babas, and 2024 Paris Olympian Waisake Tewa. “When we come back, everybody is showing that they want to fight for a spot, and you want to see if they have what it takes to represent Fiji,” he commented, highlighting the healthy competitive spirit that permeates the team.

This influx of new talent bodes well for the Fiji men’s sevens team as they aim to construct a robust roster ahead of crucial international competitions. With a dynamic mix of determination and skill from the incoming players, the team’s future appears promising as they prepare to showcase Fiji’s rugby prowess on the world stage.
