Five students from the University of Richmond have received prestigious Gilman Scholarships, aimed at fostering international educational experiences. According to Ethan Knight, associate director of the Office of Scholars and Fellowships, these scholarships are crucial for students who may not have the means to study abroad otherwise. The support not only enriches their cultural understanding but also equips them with skills beneficial for their academic and professional futures.
The Gilman Scholarship Program, under the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, has allocated scholarships to roughly 1,550 undergraduate students from all 50 states and the District of Columbia this year alone.
The latest recipients from the University of Richmond include:
– Kristal Boakye, a junior majoring in accounting, who will study in Ghana.
– Bonny Bruzos, a sophomore majoring in philosophy, who will travel to Czechia.
– Ryan Dillard, a junior majoring in biology, who will study in South Korea.
– Brenda Galbier, a sophomore majoring in psychology, who will be heading to Spain.
– Amani Jamil, a junior majoring in economics, who will study in Portugal.
Since the inception of the program in 2001, a total of 118 students from the University of Richmond have benefitted from the Gilman Scholarships, highlighting the institution’s commitment to promoting global learning opportunities. This scholarship not only helps students grow academically but also creates pathways for future career success, emphasizing the importance of global citizenship in today’s interconnected world.
