The Coalition government of Fiji has made significant strides in enhancing its business environment by launching the Starting a Business Subsystem (SABS) earlier this year. Recent reports indicate a remarkable increase in e-service applications, exceeding 13,380, with around 10,930 applications successfully processed. This initiative is a key component of the larger Building Permits Approval Subsystem (BPAS), designed to streamline and simplify processes for businesses in Fiji.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who also holds the position of Acting Minister for Trade, reiterated in Parliament the government’s commitment to improving the operational landscape of the nation through these digital measures. The focus on BPAS includes capacity building and change management, as the government works closely with various stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient operations.
To support these initiatives, decentralized training sessions have been conducted across Fiji. These sessions have equipped officials from different agencies with practical training designed to enhance their understanding of the new system and improve service delivery. The Prime Minister confirmed that most of the six proposed policy amendments related to BPAS have already received approval, with further discussions planned for the upcoming parliamentary session.
Building on the success of the SABS, which has resulted in quicker processing times and increased user satisfaction, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica emphasized that achievements like SABS set the stage for broader reforms, including the expected launch of BPAS by October. This ongoing commitment to automating services aims to reduce the bureaucratic challenges that have previously hindered business growth, ultimately improving the efficiency of service delivery.
