Fiji Launches 1548 Toll-Free Online Safety Helpline

Fiji has made a noteworthy advancement in improving online safety with the launch of its inaugural national toll-free online safety helpline, 1548. This important initiative, introduced by Online Safety Commissioner Filipe Batiwale, provides Fijians with a direct line for support and guidance in response to negative online experiences.

Batiwale emphasized the importance of the helpline, urging citizens to reach out when faced with harm online, stating, “If you’re harmed online, you can call 1548 — we are here to help.” The helpline is specifically geared towards assisting individuals who may endure cyberbullying, harassment, or any other form of detrimental online interactions, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering a safer digital environment for the population.

Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua articulated the broader impact of nurturing a safe online culture. He remarked, “When you pause before you post, you protect someone’s peace.
