Fiji is preparing for a challenging weather event as Tropical Disturbance TD03F is forecasted to impact the country early next week, bringing heavy rainfall, potential flooding, and strong winds. The Fiji Meteorological Service has announced that this weather system is expected to reach Fiji waters between Tuesday and Wednesday.
While the chances of TD03F developing into a tropical cyclone are low, its associated weather patterns are already affecting conditions across the nation. A heavy rain alert is currently in place for the entire Fiji Group, and flash flood advisories have been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas, including smaller streams.
Forecasters anticipate that rainfall will become more intense starting Monday night. With soils already saturated, the risk of both flash flooding and river flooding is heightened, particularly during Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, strong north to northwesterly winds are predicted for locations including Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, and the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, as well as northern Lau and Lomaiviti. Wind gusts could become damaging in exposed areas.
Mariners are advised to prepare for rough seas and limited visibility throughout all Fiji waters during the anticipated period. Fortunately, improvements in weather conditions are expected to begin on Thursday.
Authorities are urging the public to stay alert, follow official weather updates, and take necessary precautions during this unsettled time. By heeding timely warnings and preparing accordingly, communities can better navigate the challenges posed by these adverse weather conditions.
