Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka emphasized Fiji’s commitment to enhancing its aviation sector as a key driver for economic growth during the recent Changi Aviation Summit in Singapore. With a focus on regional connections, operational resilience, and environmental sustainability, Gavoka outlined Fiji’s strategic vision for positioning aviation as an essential economic lifeline.

This prominent summit attracted over 400 participants, comprising aviation ministers, directors-general, CEOs, and senior leaders from the global aviation community, with significant representation from Pacific Island nations. At the event, Gavoka engaged in discussions with aviation ministers from Pacific Small Island States and met with Toshiyuki Onuma, the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to address regional air connectivity challenges.

In addition to these meetings, Gavoka took part in a ministerial panel discussion titled “Creating Growth in a Disruptive World: Opportunities, Challenges, and Collaboration,” where he shared insights alongside other international aviation leaders. A significant focus of his remarks was on the necessity of ongoing technical assistance to promote Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) development and adoption, benefiting not only Fiji but also the broader community of Pacific Small Island Developing States.

Gavoka’s participation in the summit signifies a proactive approach towards tackling key challenges in the aviation industry while capitalizing on growth opportunities that can enhance regional connectivity and environmental stewardship. Through these efforts, Fiji aims to forge a resilient and sustainable aviation future that can support economic growth in the Pacific region.
