The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is reaffirming its commitment to rural development in Fiji by actively supporting farmers across the nation. Recently, officers in the Serua and Namosi regions have been distributing agro-inputs to local dalo and ginger farmers as part of this year’s assistance program, designed to boost agricultural production and improve food availability while securing better incomes for families.
Inosi Vulawalu, the Senior Agriculture Officer for Serua and Namosi, emphasized the eagerness among farmers for these crucial agro-inputs. They recognize farming not only as a means to sustain their livelihoods but also as vital to the overall food system in Fiji.
Alongside the agro-inputs, farmers involved in the Flatland Development Programme have received vegetable seeds, promoting crop diversification in households. This diversification is essential for enhancing food security and generating additional income, contributing to the families’ overall economic stability.
The Ministry has announced that similar supportive measures are being launched in other divisions across Fiji, ensuring that all farmers benefit from substantial assistance aimed at increasing their productivity. This initiative underscores the Ministry’s ongoing dedication to helping farmers achieve higher yields, enhancing their livelihoods, and strengthening the resilience of Fiji’s agricultural sector.
These proactive agricultural support efforts resonate with previous government initiatives aimed at bolstering productivity and food security. For instance, recent programs have provided essential tools to agricultural cooperatives in Serua and Namosi, empowering local farmers further. These initiatives foster a positive outlook for farmers and reinforce the importance of robust support for sustainable agricultural growth, ultimately enhancing community resilience across Fiji’s rural areas.
