People First has been officially recognized as Fiji’s newest political party following its application approval by the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, on November 20, 2025. This milestone contributes to the political landscape of Fiji, bringing the total number of registered political parties in the country to eight, thereby enhancing political diversity.

Registrar Mataiciwa disclosed that four objections had been filed regarding the party’s registration, which raised concerns about the party’s name, symbol, and various aspects of its constitution. After a thorough evaluation, she found all objections to be without merit and dismissed them accordingly.

Despite this, the individuals who lodged the objections have the option to appeal the decision within a 14-day period, allowing them to present their concerns to the Electoral Commission. This procedural framework ensures that all opinions are acknowledged, reflecting a dedication to fairness and transparency in Fiji’s democratic practices.

The establishment of People First is expected to energize political discussions within the nation, offering voters increased options and fostering greater engagement in the democratic process. This development marks a hopeful step toward a more inclusive and vibrant political environment in Fiji.
