Fiji Police Probe After Officials Attacked in Village Incident

The Fiji Police Force has initiated an investigation following a disturbing incident in Vusasivo Village, Cakaudrove, where government officials were reportedly attacked by a group of suspects. The trouble began when a government vehicle’s driver swerved to avoid an intoxicated man who had stumbled onto the road, causing the vehicle to veer off course.

Subsequently, a group of intoxicated youths allegedly approached the vehicle and assaulted the driver and passengers while also stealing their personal belongings. Six individuals were taken to Tukavesi Hospital for medical care, with two later transferred to Labasa Hospital for additional treatment. Currently, one victim is in stable condition while the other has been discharged.

The police have been actively collecting statements from the victims and are working diligently to identify the suspects involved in the assault, stressing that the investigation is ongoing. This incident reflects a troubling trend of violent occurrences in Fiji, underscoring the urgent need for heightened community vigilance.
