The High Court in Lautoka has postponed the pretrial conference for Iliesa Tanoa Degei, who stands accused of allegedly raping a Virgin Australia Airlines cabin crew member. The incident reportedly took place in Nadi in late 2024.

During the court proceedings, Justice Sunil Sharma was informed that while the necessary pretrial checklist and agreed facts had already been submitted, the defense requested an additional seven days to review and comment on the documents. Subsequently, they sought a further two weeks to finalize a date for the pretrial conference.

Justice Sharma decided to adjourn the case, setting the new date for the pretrial conference hearing to April 15. In a related development, the accused will continue to remain on bail until the next court appearance.

This case has attracted significant attention, highlighting the ongoing discussions around issues of safety and accountability within the airline industry. The judiciary’s careful handling of such sensitive cases is crucial in ensuring justice is served while maintaining the rights of all parties involved.
