The Fiji Kids Learning for Life program is proud to celebrate its 16th year, continuing its mission to support disadvantaged students in the Nadroga region throughout their educational journeys, according to founder Julie Hoskisen. The organization currently assists over 80 families by covering their educational expenses, emphasizing a comprehensive “Class One to Year 13” sponsorship model.
“We’re called Learning for Life, Future Kids Learning for Life, and that means if a child joins us in Class One, we’re still sponsoring them in Year 13,” Hoskisen stated. The program is dedicated to guiding children through their school years, encouraging them to remain in education and pursue their dreams.
Since its establishment, the initiative has positively impacted more than 250 children, many of whom have gone on to enroll at Fiji National University, the University of the South Pacific, or other vocational training institutions to acquire essential skills for employment. A significant element of the program’s success is its focus on reintegrating graduates into the community as leaders.
Currently, the program boasts approximately 30 active mentors and 40 graduates benefiting from vocational and university scholarship programs. Hoskisen noted that those who completed their studies are increasingly returning to inspire and support younger students. “We encourage them to reflect on how they’ve been helped and how they can motivate younger ones to attend school and improve their lives,” she explained.
The program aims to empower individuals in the community, providing inspiration and financial stability needed to break the cycle of poverty. By fostering a culture of success and mentorship, it is hoped that these efforts will inspire the next generation to dream bigger and work towards a brighter future.
