Tropical Disturbance TD03F has officially been upgraded to a Tropical Depression, set to unleash heavy rainfall and strong northerly winds across Fiji in the coming days. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, TD03F is currently moving slowly over open waters northeast of Vanuatu and is charting a southeastward path between Fiji and Vanuatu.

The depression is projected to enter Fiji’s waters on Tuesday, December 16, and is expected to move out of the region through the Lau Group by late Wednesday, December 17. Although the possibility of TD03F evolving into a full tropical cyclone remains low, its associated low-pressure trough is already having an impact, resulting in overcast skies and persistent rainfall throughout Fiji.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, strong northerly winds are forecasted to sweep through the region, with speeds averaging 50 km/h and gusts potentially reaching 70 km/h. The northern areas of Vanua Levu, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, including northern Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, are likely to feel the brunt of these winds. Mariners are advised to exercise caution as winds could range from 15–20 knots, with moderate to rough seas in the forecast. By Wednesday, these winds may intensify, reaching up to 30 knots and gusting to 40 knots over waters encompassing Vanua Levu, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, the Koro Sea, and northern Lau waters.

Unsettled weather is expected to hover over Fiji through Wednesday as TD03F approaches from the west, bringing increased rainfall to many areas. However, there is a silver lining on the horizon, as improvements in weather conditions are anticipated starting Thursday, offering a glimpse of hope to those impacted by the incoming system.
