The Fiji Meteorological Service reported that Tropical Cyclone Urmil was located about 520 kilometers southwest of Nadi at 6 a.m. this morning. The cyclone is moving southeast at an increased speed of approximately 30 kilometers per hour.

Although Urmil’s center is not predicted to make direct contact with Fiji, meteorologists warn that rainbands and strong winds connected to the cyclone are already impacting various regions of the country.

The Weather Office is urging the public to stay vigilant and adhere to all official weather alerts issued from Nadi, as well as guidance from the National Disaster Management Office.

Authorities have cautioned communities, particularly those living in low-lying and coastal areas, to exercise caution as the unpredictable weather continues. This situation emphasizes the importance of preparedness and awareness in the face of adverse weather conditions. Communities are encouraged to stay informed and to take any necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this time.
